Welcome to the first Adventure Consultants Everest Summit Bid for 2012! As I write the team are leaving the South Col and are on their way to stand on the top of the world!
Tonight’s summit team is headed by Expedition Leader Mike Roberts from New Zealand. All going well this will be Mike’s sixth summit of Mount Everest and he also has a wealth of experience on the world’s high altitude and 8000m peaks including Denali, GII, Muztagh Ata & Cho Oyu to name a few. Mike will be assisted by Ang Dorjee Sherpa who is hoping to make his sixteenth summit of Mount Everest! They are ably supported by Climbing Sirdar Dawa Jangbu for whom this will be his eleventh Everest Summit plus an all-star team of four climbing Sherpa.
Also climbing tonight is our first Private Everest Team for this 2012 season. Iza Smolokowska is led by the vastly experienced Dean Staples. Dean already has an impressive seven Everest Summits under his belt and we hope that tonight will be his eighth! Dean is also assisted by an star Sherpa team, headed by Lhakpa Dorjee. Lhakpa has also summitted Everest seven times, along with summits of Lhotse, Manaslu, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga and Shishapangma to name a few! Lhakpa Tenzing & Gelu Sherpa, both also Everest summiteers, complete the team.
Both summit teams are supported supported at the South Col by our Climbing Sherpa/Cook Rinjin. Rinjin was also part of the summit fixing team and fixed to the Balcony yesterday before descending to the South Col to take on his role of Cook – he’s a multi-talented guy!

Ang Dorjee and Joan left the South Col at 8pm local time and as I write this Mike, Wilfred, Peter and Neil are donning their crampons and are about to start their ascent. Dean and Iza plan to depart in another half an hour, at 9.30pm.
